Subject: GW Graham Athletics response to COVID-19

Due to health concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19, GW Graham Athletics has elected to suspend all Athletics activities.  Most sport governing bodies have shut down all activities at this point until April 15th,  when they will reevaluate the situation.  We will provide additional info following the end of spring break, at which time we will reassess health advisories and safety concerns. BC school sports looks to do the same.  Please see BC school Sports link to their statement below.

BC high school sports will continue to monitor the latest from Canadian Health Authorities and provide updates as needed.

Grizzlies Field Hockey – 10th at Provincials

The Senior Girls Field Hockey team finished an excellent season with a 10th place showing at the BCs. The team finished third in their pool with two losses on the first day to JL Crowe and LFA, and then a great 4-0 win over SOSS. Then in the consolation side quarterfinal the team managed to hang out to a 1-0 win in a tense and physical match with Southridge.  This win put them into the consolation semi finals where they played some excellent field hockey in a chilly, rainy early morning match.

This game resulted in a 3-1 victory which meant they were into the consolation final. In this game they were defeated by St. Michael’s but overall it was an excellent week of high level field hockey. Congratulations to the team on a wonderful season.

Senior Field Hockey – Fraser Valley Champions!

The Senior Field Hockey team crushed their opposition in playoffs and have won the Fraser Valley Championships. This means the team has also earned their eighth consecutive trip to the AA Provincials to be held in Vancouver next month. The team was dominant on offence and put in a solid defensive effort in each game. In their first game the Grizzlies got off to a bit of a slow start but once the offence got going they were in control and defeated Agassiz 6-0. Playing back to back games the Grizzlies came out strong in their second game and defeated North Delta 9-0. Their final game was against a familiar rival from Southridge, and the team played some of their best field hockey of the season winning 5-0. It was an outstanding effort from start to finish! The Senior Field Hockey team solidified their first place finish in their league by soundly defeating the SRT Titans in their final regular season game. With the win the team finishes with a perfect record and will compete for a provincial berth at the Fraser Valley Championships next week.

Prior to the playoffs the team will be travelling to Surrey to compete in the “Golden Pumpkin” tournament this weekend. Good luck Grizzlies!
